In February, I had the opportunity to visit one of the jiggers laying in Stanley harbour for inspection, and chat to the captain about Illex catches. Furthermore, in February a paper written with together with Jesse van der Grient among several other co-authors was published open access in the Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom. The paper is about an Ecosystem model of the Falkland Islands, focusing on the squid Doryteuthis gahi and using mainly fisheries data.
Coming back to the Illex project, all conducted models, including the GAMM and the neural networks, will be compared within the final report and all processed and visualized oceanographic data will be accessible for future SAERI projects.
