The project officially ends with a final public talk; however, some of the work will continue over the next few months, and we hope to maintain the data logging stations for many years to come.

The Falkland Islands Community School (FICS) has invited SAERI to prepare a session for Careers Days, through which the students can get a better understanding what work as a scientist involves.

The Wetlands project tasks the students to investigate samples from three local ponds by measuring pH and conductivity and identifying freshwater invertebrates

The Wetlands PM takes part in SAERI’s school outreach to explore the life on rocky shores and sandy shores (Ramsar Wetlands categories) for Year 7 students to gain their CREST Bronze Award.

10th & 14th April 2021

The Wetlands PM visits the MOD’s Mount Pleasant Complex for a family field event to explore life in Sand Pond; which was followed four days later by an evening talk about both the Soil Mapping project and the Wetlands Project.

The Wetlands Project hosts year 10 work experience student Gerryn and takes him out into the field and into the lab.

31st March 2021

The main fieldwork season is completed with a trip to Weddell and Bleaker Island and the long-term monitoring aspect of the projects starts with the deployment of loggers on Weddell and on Bleaker.

15th March 2021

The Wetlands Project is discussed in the Falkland Islands Government’s Environment Committee, which is highlighted in the ‘Inside Gilbert House’ update in Penguin News.
